The Food Factory

Our History

Inspired by explosive breakthroughs being made by scientists in America during its Industrial Revolution, British inventor and unsung rocket scientist, Archibald Snufflebutt, packed up his laboratory and set out to join them. He settled here in Oviedo, uninhabited and secluded at the time, and perfect for tinkering with high-altitude projectiles, namely rockets. To manufacture the explosive compounds that fueled them, he founded Snufflebutt Propellant and Combustion Enterprises (S.P.A.C.E.) and erected its factory and testing facility on this very site.

But questions and rumors soon arose.

Was Archibald Snufflebutt dedicated to the sole aspiration of launching rockets into space? Did his factory really produce rocket fuel and propellants throughout the decades that followed, or was it a thinly veiled disguise for less-principled endeavors?

Rumors still circulate that answer all of the above; “Yes, at times.” You see, it was well-known in the day that Archibald Snufflebutt lacked the requisite temperance to withstand the driest days of the Prohibition Era. Legend has it that it was out of compassion for his factory workers, (and out of necessity for his own consumption), that Snufflebutt Propellant and Combustion Enterprises (S.P.A.C.E.) quietly added the secret Snufflebutt Distillery to its factory production line. Within the confines of his rocket factory, Archibald used his extensive knowledge of high-octane fuel to distill some of Prohibition’s finest spirits.

Is the legend of Snufflebutt’s Hidden Distillery truly believable? Try The Factory Bar’s signature cocktail “ROCKET FUEL” to help you formulate your own conclusions.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Food Factory is a collection of smaller (what we call micro-restaurants) encompassing approximately 14,500 square feet of well-designed indoor, covered outdoor, and open-air courtyard spaces for fabulous food, drink, games, and entertainment. It consists of seven 800 sf micro-restaurants run by local chefs. Each micro-restaurant has its own full kitchen and menu reflecting imaginative and high caliber fast-fine dining offerings unlike a food hall. (We don’t even have a hall!) Kid friendly. Outside courtyards are dog-friendly!

The jewel of the collective is an “industrial factory chic” bar named The Factory Bar in the center of the Collective providing craft cocktails, beer and wine for adults, and imaginative beverages for non-alcohol drinkers and kids. Customers of the Collective can bring any of the 8 micro-restaurants’ food and drink inside the bar or outside at the tables in the covered courtyard. The Factory Bar holds weekly events for all ages, and has available event space inside the bar for parties, UCF Game watching, etc.

We call them “micro” because each is an 800 square foot restaurant with a full kitchen and its own seating, unlike a food hall with stalls, a commissary kitchen and warmed over food. Restrooms for the entire Collective are located next to The Factory Bar to give the micro-restaurants added kitchen space.

The factory history is of a British inventor named Archibald Snufflebutt, who, inspired by explosive breakthroughs being made by scientists in America during its industrial revolution, packed up his laboratory and settled in Oviedo to tinker with high-altitude projectiles, namely rockets. To manufacture the explosive compounds that fueled them, he founded Snufflebutt Propellant and Combustion Enterprises (S.P.A.C.E.) and erected its factory on this very site. Legend has it that he had a not-so-secret distillery during The Prohibition era. A picture of Archibald Snufflebutt is located by The Factory Manager’s Office inside The Factory Bar surrounded by other artifacts from the rocket factory that we unearthed.

The rockets are a tribute to rocket scientist and inventor Archibald Snufflebutt, founder of his factory Snufflebutt Propellant and Combustion Enterprises (S.P.A.C.E.) said to be located on this very site.
